What years cover the Victorian era?

The Victorian era was during the reign of Queen Victoria. It approximately covers the years form 1837 to 1901.

What kind of dances do you do?
We learn dances that were popular during the Victorian era such as the Waltz, Quadrille, Lancers, Grand March, Schottische, Virginia Reel, and others.

Are members required to perform in period costume?
No. Public performances requiring period clothing are optional for each member.

I know nothing about Victorian clothing but I would like to have some period costumes. What do I do?
Many of our members have much experience in making and/or acquiring Victorian period costumes. They will be more than happy to assist you in any way they can.

When are meetings held?
The Victorian Dance Society meets at 7 PM on the first Wednesday of the month at the Amherst Museum and on the fourth Wednesday at the VFW Post on Spring Street in Williamsville.

Do I have to join before I attend a meeting?
No. You may attend up to three meetings without becoming a member. This way you can check us out and decide if the Victorian Dance Society is for you before paying for a membership.

How much does it cost to join?
Annual dues are $25 at the individual level and $50 for families. This includes membership in both the Society and Amherst Museum. Membership is from January 1 to December 31.
