The Proper Dance Position

This is the proper position

As can be see in this illustration, the proper position for Victorian Dancing is different than it is today. The man’s left hand is above the lady’s hand and is in the palm-down position. The man’s elbow is only slightly bent and the position of the hand is at or below the waist.
